Statement from LHA President & CEO John Matessino
Hospitals and other healthcare providers have been severely cut over the past four years putting healthcare services, jobs and families at risk. These cuts, along with other financial challenges, negatively impact our healthcare system, our economy and our future.
House Speaker Chuck Kleckley (R-Lake Charles) and House Speaker Pro Tempore Walt Leger (D-New Orleans) filed HB 532 and HB 533, two constitutional amendments that would give families, including those with private health insurance, a more stable healthcare delivery system in Louisiana. This would help to guarantee more accountability and efficient use of Medicaid funds.
This legislation would allow the state to access more federal funds, which is good for everyone in Louisiana. Putting patients first is not about party politics. Our state is in serious financial trouble. It is time to find alternative, responsible funding solutions for Louisiana taxpayers.
